Week 12-14: April 7th - 27th

Day 80: Tuesday, April 8th
Yesterday Landon measured 43 cm -- 17 inches long, 31 cm head circumference, and 1820 grams -- 4lbs!  Today Landon had his third eye appointment and his eyes looked great!  He now has mature vessels and no signs of Retinophathy, so he doesn't have to have another eye exam for six months.  He has moved into Room 4 now; they had to move all Room 2 babies to this room due to staffing issues.  It is much more crowded and noisy in this room.  We are still in the first bed spot so right next to the inside window when you enter the room.
Tonight Landon ate an entire feeding by breast feeding for the first time!  They did not have to give him any supplemental tube feeding at all! He ate for 11 minutes straight --  what a big boy!

Day 84: Saturday, April 12th
I have been going in at 10:00 am and again from about 4-7 pm the last few days to try and breast feed twice a day.  The last three times I have tried, he has eaten enough to count as full feedings.  He ate for about 14 minutes both this morning and tonight.  The nipple shield the lactation specialist gave me has made it a lot easier for Landon to stay latched the entire time, and it seems like he has just taken off with it since then.
He weighed 2055 grams tonight, so 4lb 8oz.  He has already outgrown some of his preemie outfits because he is just too tall!  His feedings are up to 37mL every 3 hours now.

Monica and Pauline hosted a baby shower for me and Landon today.  It was super cute and we got a lot of fun new things!

We got a lot of fun stuff!
Day 87: Tuesday, April 15th
Landon is still doing pretty well at breastfeeding twice a day.  He nursed full feedings at 1pm and 7pm today.  He also ate 30 mL of a bottle at 4am.  He weighs 2070 grams, so 4lb 9 oz.

All snuggled in for bed
He is starting to follow me with his eyes and look for me when he hears my voice.  We are able to spend a lot more time cuddling now, and I feel like we are finally starting to bond.
This is his "Oh dear!" face

My blood work came back with definitely positive results for Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).  At least there is a reason for why this happened so early and so severely.  This means that next time I am pregnant I will have to have Heparin shots throughout the entire pregnancy and will most likely be on bed rest early on.

Day 89: Thursday, April 17th
Landon was pretty sleepy today, so I was only able to get him to breastfeed once.  He weighed 2160 grams though, so he is 4lb 12oz! His oxygen flow is still at .3 LPM with concentrations in the 50s and 60s.  Hopefully his lungs will start getting stronger so he can keep weaning off the oxygen.  We also did the infant CPR class tonight.  Mike has been putting together all sorts of stuff for Landon's homecoming -- crib, pack n' play, stroller, swing, and bassinet. We are getting excited for our little man to come home!

Day 90: Friday, April 18th
Landon is 3 months old today!

Day 92: Sunday, April 20th
Today is Easter Sunday so we brought Landon an Easter basket with a cute little Easter outfit, a crocheted beanie, and a card from Great-Grandma Lowe.  He ate really well at 10am.  He ate for about 10 minutes then laid on my chest for 30 minutes and pooped, then decided he was hungry again and ate for another 15 minutes.  What a hungry boy!  He stayed wide awake until we left at noon.
Easter "Beaver-Bunny"

I tried feeding him again after his bath at 4pm, but he fell sound asleep after his bath and wouldn't wake up to eat at all.  He weighed 2255 grams today, so 4lb 15oz.

Day 93: Monday, April 21st
Landon was switched from the bubbler oxygen to regular wall oxygen today.  He went from .3 LPM of flow with 40-50% concentration to 1/8 LPM of flow with 100% concentration.  If he goes home on oxygen, this is the kind he will be on.  Our Little Man also passed the 5lb mark today!  He is 5lb 1oz, 45 cm/ 17.5 inches long, and his head was 33.5 cm in circumference.
"There's a spider on my belly!"
Laying on Mommy's chest
He ate really well at 10am and 4pm today.  He likes to lift his head and turn it from side to side while he's laying on my chest after he eats.  What a strong boy!
Day 96: Thursday, April 24th
Last night, Landon weighed 2330 grams -- so 5lb 2oz.  He is starting to eat more and to take a bottle more skillfully.  Two nights ago he finished an entire feeding by bottle -- all 44mL!  He is on a new feeding plan where if he is awake and acting hungry, we can try to feed him, either by breast or bottle.  Yesterday he ate four times! That is halfway to taking all meals by mouth!  He doesn't always take an entire bottle though, so sometimes they have to gavage the rest through his feeding tube.

Barbara, the developmental therapist, says physically he looks great! His reflexes and muscle tone are looking good.  He just needs to work on eating now.  One nurse told me that I need to do the discharge class.  It's hard to believe my due date is next Friday and he will be coming home soon!

Day 97: Friday, April 25th
Landon nursed three times today!  At 10am, 4:30pm, and 7:30pm.  I couldn't believe he nursed back-to-back tonight, he has never done that before.  His energy levels are starting to increase finally, and he is starting to recognize when he is hungry and nurse more vigorously.  He also took a partial bottle at 1:30am and 4:30am, so he has eaten 5 times today!  He is over halfway there!  He weighed 2465 grams tonight, so 5lb 7oz.
 Day 98: Saturday, April 26th
Jenna and Heather threw me and Landon a "John Deere" themed shower today!  Jenna made a really cute John Deere cake, and Landon got a whole bunch of cute and fun presents!

 Day 99: Sunday, April 27th
Just some cute family pictures from today!

Week 11: March 31st - April 6th

Day 72: Monday, March 31st
As of this morning, they are trying Landon off of vapotherm and on low-flow "bubbler" oxygen that is mixed with some moisture.  He is on .5 LPM of flow and 50% concentration.  His feedings are also up to 29 mL every three hours... that is 1 mL less than an ounce!  His length was 41 cm again (16 1/4 inches), his head circumference was 30.5 cm -- I also found out it was only 23 cm at birth, it's amazing how much he has grown.  His weight was 1613 grams -- still 3lb 8oz.
Fast asleep
I helped with his bath today and just  held him skin-to-skin because he was too sleepy to breast feed.  He was satting really well while I held him, about 96% the whole time.  He made cute little cooing and sucking noises while I was holding him.

Day 73: Tuesday, April 1st
Little Landon was weaned down to .3 LPM of flow on his oxygen today!  He was at about 64% concentration, but the doctor is more concerned about weaning the flow first in order to prevent drying out his nasal passageway.  He weighed 1680 grams, so 3lb 11oz!

He was sound asleep at 1:00 pm, even during his cares, so I just held him skin-to-skin while he slept.  He was wide awake at 4:00 pm, so I tried nursing him.  He stayed latched for 18 minutes and sucked for about 9 of them.  That is the longest he has ever lasted!  His feedings were increased to 30 mL today ( 1 whole ounce), so they were able to withhold about 20 mL of milk from his tube feeding to allow for what he ate while nursing.  For me, it was a moment of feeling very accomplished as a mother.  I have worked so hard to keep at pumping in order to experience little moments of success like this!

Day 76: Friday, April 4th
Landon just keeps getting bigger and bigger! He weighed 1770 grams tonight, so 3lb 14oz.  He is also 36 weeks gestational today.  During his bath he just looks around and coos and makes little noises that are so cute.  Then I was able to nurse him and he ate for about 8 minutes.  After nursing, I laid him on my chest and he just looked around with wide eyes for another 10 minutes before falling asleep.
Wide-eyed little boy
His oxygen needs are still fairly high on the bubbler oxygen.  His flow is about .6 LPM and his concentration is in the 50s and 60s.  We are starting to look for a pediatrician and get Landon's room ready for him to come home. I also got the ok to finally stop monitoring my blood pressure today!

Day 78: Sunday, April 6th
Landon moved into an open-air crib today! It's kind of scary to see him unprotected outside of the isolette, but it is also great to see him making such progress.
